Daughter of Laura Johnsen, of Ålesund. She also survived the sinking of the Norwegian motor merchant Talabot, which was struck by bombs during an air raid in the harbor of Valletta, Malta on 26 March 1942 and had to be scuttled to prevent the explosion of its cargo of ammunition and fuel.
