Personal information
Son of Matthew Smith Hopkins, Sr. and Katherine Cunningham Washington; of Riverdale, MD. His brother Bushrod Washington Hopkins also served in the Merchant Marine and survived the sinking of Alcoa Ranger in the ill-fated convoy PQ-17 on 7 July 1942.
