Personal information
Born in Australia, Thomas Stanborough immigrated to U.S. in 1910 as "Best Boy" aboard a steam ship and lived in New Orleans, LA. On 15 Jan, 1918, he obtained the U.S. Seaman's Certification and became a naturalized U.S. Citizen on 8 Feb, 1919. He was given his first command in 1921 when employed by the Lykes Brothers SS Company, New Orleans.
Married, three children. Entire family involved in war effort, with son Zach flying bombers for the USAAF out of England, daughter Thelma working at Esler Army Air Base in Louisiana and son Thomas William in the USN (Lost in the Solomon Sea, 30 May 1943).
