Born 1910 St Thomas, Devon. Mother Edna Mary Garwood nee Coachafer, his father was Engineer Rear Admiral Hugh Sydney Garwood CB, OBE. His grandfather Henry Daniel Garwood was also a RN engineer. At time of retirement he was "Inspector of Machinery Afloat" (~1890).
