Walter George Coltham had four children with his wife. He died from cancer in 1971.

HMIS Rajputana (Lt. W.G. Coltham, RIN) picks up 166 survivors from the American merchant José Navarro that was torpedoed and sunk the previous day by German U-boat U-178 about 175 nautical miles south-west of Cochin, India in position 08°20'N, 73°55'E.
