Career information
Transferred to the Emergency List on 13 September 1949.
During the Spanish Civil War he commanded the WW1 minesweeper HMS Saltash on non-intervention patrol; after his brief command of Westralia he was amphibious adviser to Gen Moreshead during the later landings in the South Pacific and was involved with Force Z, although he advised agains the second raid on Singapore. After the war he commanded HMAS Platypus and the RAN Reserve Fleet.
When he ceased full time service in 1949 (he remained on the Reserves until 1962) he joined the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, serving with them in a number of positions until 1966.
