HrMs Evertsen (Lt.Cdr. W.M. de Vries, RNN) scuttled the stranded Dutch merchant vessel Tidore (872 GRT, built 1930) with gunfire.
On 5 February, this merchant vessel, while en-route from Soerabaja to Koepang (Timor), had been attacked by nine Japanese bombers. While evading the attacks the ship grounded on Sumbawa Island and could not get off or be salved.
