Career information
Myron Turner Richardson was a member of the Harvard College class of 1919. His autobiography in the 50th Class Report abstracted, follows. . . .born Apr. 28, 1897 in Newton MA, SB cum laude 1919. wife: Alice Mae Taylor. Honors: Legion of Merit with two gold clasps and combat "V" American Defense Service with Fleet clasp Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with 3 battle stars European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 2 battle stars Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star French Croix de Guerre with Gold Star. Retired as Rear Admiral. Left college in 1918 attended Officer Material School, serve as Ensign in USS Von Steuben transporting returning troops from Europe. As a junior officer I grew up in destroyers in the Atlantic and Caribbean was assigned duty in the Asiatic Fleet 1932-1935 during the last 9 months commanded USS Isabel attached to the South China Patrol. 1937-1939 was chief engineer on the USS Arizona, serving under RADM Chester W. Nimitz Com-Bat-Div One.1941-2 commanded USS Clark, destroyer squadron leader, under overhaul in San Diego on 7 Dec. 1941. 1942-3 commanded USS Kenmore. For 6 months of 1943-4 commanded LST Flotilla 10 in Atlantic and European areas. Operations Officer of amphibious group under RADM Don Moon at Utah Beach and RADM Spencer S. Lewis for Southern France assault. For one month assigned to LT Gen. Alexander Patch's 7th Army HQ as Navy liason. Then redeployed to Pacific Theater under RADM Ingolf Kiland for the Lingayen Gulf landing and Okinawa operation. Last active service as inspector of recruiting at New York. Retired 1 Aug. 1949.
