Career information
John Frink McGillis was born in Seattle, Washington on May 18, 1910 and died in Santa Cruz, California on October 11, 2002. He graduated from Broadway High School in Seattle, Washington in 1928. He entered the United States Naval Academy of Annapolis, MD and graduated 1934. Spending 30 years in the United States Navy, he served on the USS Saratoga, USS Hall, USS Indianapolis and was C.O. of the USS Walke during World War 2. He received the Bronze Star with Combat V. Before retirement he had two more ship assignments DE Squadron Commander with the Atlantic Fleet assigned to the USS Huse, and in 1956-1957 as Skipper of Troop Transport USS Taladega. As his final tour as duty, he headed the Naval Mission to Bogota, Colombia.Events related to this officer
