USS Livermore and USS Mayo together pick up 32 survivors from the American merchant Santa Rita that was torpedoed and sunk on 9 July 1942 by German U-boat U-172 about 700 nautical miles north-east of Puerto Rico in position 26°11'N, 55°40'W.
