While on her 6th war patrol USS Plunger (Lt.Cdr. R.H. Bass) torpedoed and sank the Japanese passenger ship Tatsutake Maru (7068 GRT, built 1940) and the transport ship Kinai Maru (8360 GRT, built 1930) about 200 nautical miles east of Saipan in position 14°29'N, 149°00'E.
