Career information

Commander Robert Ernest Brett, RNR was released from naval service on November 13th, 1946. He then joined Standard Vacuum Oil Co as their Senior Master of oil tankers. Subsequently, he was appointed Operations Manager in Melbourne, Australia and later Marine Advisor in London. His last position before retiring in 1969 was with Mobil Oil Co. as Marine Advisor. He retired to Australia and passed away in 1982

The Italian submarine Bronzo was captured off Syracuse, Sicily by the British minesweepers HMS Seaham (Lt.Cdr. R.E. Brett, RNR), HMS Boston (Lt. D.H.G. Coughlan, RNR), HMS Poole (Lt. W.L.G. Dutton, RNR) and HMS Cromarty (Lt.Cdr. C.G. Palmer, DSC, RNZNVR).

Bronzo was commissioned into the Royal Navy as HMS P 714. On 29 January 1944 she was transferred to the Free French as Narval.
