Career information
He died of a brain tumor on Sept. 3rd, 1957. He graduated from The Naval Academy in 1929. He was the youngest commanding officer in the Navy in 1939, when he captained the USS Falcon [1938-1940, navsource], the rescue ship from which the Momsen bell was used to save the lives of sailors aboard the sunken submarine USS Squalus (personal communication).

USS Nautilus (Cdr. George A. Sharp) departed from Pearl Harbor bound for Brisbane, Australia. While operating out of Australia she carried supplies to the Philippine resistance and evacuates several refugees. Nautilus completed her 14th and last war patrol at Darwin on 30 January 1945.
