The Italian submarine Berillo is depth charged and sunk by the British destroyers HMS Hasty (Lt.Cdr. L.R.K. Tyrwhitt, RN), HMS Havock (Cdr. R.E. Courage, DSO, DSC, RN) south of Crete in position 33°09'N, 26°24'E.

The light cruisers HMS Neptune (Capt. R.C. O'Conor, RN), HMS Aurora (Capt. W.G. Agnew, RN), HMS Penelope (Capt. A.D. Nicholl, RN) and the destroyers HMS Kandahar (Cdr. W.G.A. Robson, DSO, DSC, RN) and HMS Jaguar (Lt.Cdr. L.R.K. Tyrwhitt, DSC, RN) departed Malta at 1830B/9 to intercept a reported enemy convoy to the east of Malta. No contact was made and the ships returned to Malta around 0745B/10. (1)

As an enemy convoy was reported proceeding northwards near Pantelleria, the destroyers HMS Zulu (Cdr. H.R. Graham, DSO, DSC, RN), HMS Lance (Lt.Cdr. R.W.F. Northcott, RN), HMS Lively (Lt.Cdr. W.F.E. Hussey, DSC, RN) and HMS Jaguar (Lt.Cdr. L.R.K. Tyrwhitt, DSC, RN) departed Malta around 1900/13 to intercept and attack this convoy. Swordfish torpedo bombers of 830 Sq. FAA were also ordered to find and attack this convoy which was made up of the Italian transports Monginevro (5324 GRT, built 1940) and Monviso (5322 GRT, built 1941), escorted by torpedo-boats Castore and Procione, which had departed Tripoli at 1630/13th.
No contact was made and the destroyers arrived back at Malta around 0915/14. (2)
30 Jan 1942
The landing ship HMS Glengyle (A/Capt.(Retd.) C.H. Petrie, DSO and Bar, RN) (9919 GRT, built 1939) and the troop transport Princess Marguerite (Canadian, 5875 GRT, built 1925) departed Alexandria for exercises in the Gulf of Suez. They were escorted from Alexandria to Port Said by the destroyers HMS Jaguar (Lt.Cdr. L.R.K. Tyrwhitt, DSC, RN) and HMS Lance (Lt.Cdr. R.W.F. Northcott, RN). They all arrived safely at Port Said on 31 January after which the destroyers returned to Alexandria arriving later the same day. (3)

The British fleet oiler RFA Slavol (2623 GRT, built 1917) departed Alexandria for Tobruk. She was being escorted by the British destroyer HMS Jaguar (Lt.Cdr. L.R.K. Tyrwhitt, DSC, RN), Greek destroyer RHS Vasilissa Olga (Lt.Cdr. G. Blessas, RHN) and the A/S whaler HMS Klo (Lt. M.C. English, RNR). (4)
