HMAS Nestor (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) and HMS Active (Lt.Cdr. M.W. Tomkinson, RN) departed Scapa Flow for torpedo firing exercises.

On completion of the exercises HMAS Nestor proceeded eastwards to make rendezvous off Cape Wrath with HMS Anthony (Lt.Cdr. J.M. Hodges, RN) coming from Port ZA (Loch Alsh) and HMS Circassia (A/Capt. E.V. Lees, RN) coming from the Clyde.

Rendezvous was affected around 1500A/26 and course was set for Reykjavik, Iceland. The two destroyers escorting the armed merchant cruiser. (2)

28 Mar 1941
Around 1130N/28, HMS Circassia (A/Capt. E.V. Lees, RN), HMAS Nestor (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) and HMS Anthony (Lt.Cdr. J.M. Hodges, RN) arrived at Reykjavik.

The destroyers then fuelled at Hvalfjord before they departed again to join convoy HX 115 at sea which they did the following day.

HMAS Quiberon was then joined by HMS Quality (Lt.Cdr. G.L. Farnfield, DSO, RN) and both destroyers then set course for Gibraltar. (7)

Around 2300C/4, HMAS Quiberon (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) departed Durban to search for survivors from ships torpedoed that had been in convoy DN-21. Four ships from this convoy were sunk and two had been damaged.

Around 1700C/5, HMAS Quiberon was joined by HMS Relentless (Lt.Cdr. R.A. Fell, RN), HMS Blackmore (Lt. H.T. Harrel, RN) and HMS Catterick (Lt. A. Tyson, RN) which had parted company with convoy WS 26 around 0530C/4.

Around 1730C/5, HMS Blackmore and HMS Catterick parted company to proceed to Durban as they ran low on fuel. They arrived at Durban around 1530C/6.

Around 2130C/5, HMAS Quiberon and HMS Relentless also departed the area to return to Durban where they arrived around 1200C/7. (9)

Around 1800C/7, the armed merchant cruiser HMS Carthage (A/Capt.(Retd.) W.V.H. Harris, DSC, MVO, RN), seaplane tender HMS Albatross (A/Capt.(Retd.) S. Barry, RN) and the destroyers HMAS Quiberon (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) and HMAS Quickmatch (Lt.Cdr. R. Rhoades, DSC, RAN) departed Durban and proceeded northwards.

Around 1900C/9, HMS Albatross and HMAS Quickmatch parted company to proceed to Tulear, Madagascar where they arrived around 1200C/10. They departed again around 1515C/10 for Majunga where they arrived around 1215C/12. They departed Majunga around 1730C/12 for Kilindini where they arrived around 0830C/15.

HMS Carthage and HMAS Quiberon proceeded direct to Kilindini where they arrived around 1000C/13. (10)

In the afternoon of 21 March, HMAS Quiberon fuelled at Diego Garcia from the RFA tanker Appleleaf (5891 GRT, built 1917). On completion of fuelling HMAS Quiberon departed Diego Garcia for Fremantle where she arrived around 1200H/29. (9)

At 0255H/15, a fire is discovered in the foward mess deck on board HMAS Quiberon (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) which is refitting at Port Melbourne. The fire was extinguished at 0430H/15.

A court of inquire was held on board the following day to determine the cause of the fire. (11)

Late in the afternoon the destroyers parted company. HMAS Quiberon continued on towards Kilindini while HMAS Nepal was to make rendezvous with the submarine depot ship HMS Adamant (A/Capt.(Retd.) C.A. Laffitte, RN) en-route from Colombo to Kilindini via Addu Atoll. (13)

Around 1800C/26, the submarine depot ship HMS Adamant (A/Capt.(Retd.) C.A. Laffitte, RN) departed Kilindini for Colombo. She was escorted by the destroyers HMAS Napier (Lt.Cdr. A.H. Green, DSC, RAN) and HMAS Norman (Cdr. H.J. Buchanan DSO, RAN). They joined the other four destroyers shortly afterwards.

Around 0640CD/30, upon completion of an exercises, HMAS Quiberon and HMS Quality parted company to return to Kilindini where they arrived around 1430C/1.

Around 1800CD/30, HMAS Nepal parted company to proceed to Port Victoria, Seychelles to fuel. She rejoined around 0600D/2. HMAS Norman and HMAS Napier then parted company to fuel at Port Victoria. They returned around 1445D/3 when HMS Rapid proceeded to fuel at Port Victoria after which she was to return to Kilindini.

HMS Adamant, HMAS Norman, HMAS Nepal and HMAS Napier arrived at Colombo around 1030FG/8.

They came from Bombay which they had departed, together with HMAS Nepal around 1500FG/12. HMS Rapid had joined the Battler group around 1415DE/15 having departed Colombo on 12 December 1943. HMS Plym actually did not join the convoy but proceeded independently to Aden where she arrived on 17 December 1943. HMAS Nepal proceeded to Kilindini where she arrived on 19 December 1943 escorting the troop transport Arundel Castle (British, 19118 GRT, built 1921) which she must have picked up at some point. HMS Battler, HMS Rotherham, HMS Rapid, HMS Roebuck, HMS Derg and HMS Kale arrived at Bombay with part of the convoy on 19 December 1943.

Around 1715DE/15, HMS Rescourse and the transport City of Lincoln (British, 8039 GRT, built 1938) and the destroyers HMAS Quiberon and HMS Quality parted company with the convoy. The City of Lincoln parted company with these ships around 1400FG/20 to proceed to Colombo where she arrived on 21 December 1943. HMS Rescource, HMAS Quiberon and HMS Quality arrived at Trincomalee around 1200FG/22.

The destroyer HMS Quality (Lt.Cdr. G.L. Farnfield, DSO, RN), which had been in company with HMAS Quiberon proceeded to Madras with HMS LST 180 and HMS LST 238 arriving there later on the 25th.

Around 1900FG/23, HMAS Quiberon (Cdr. G.S. Stewart, RAN) departed Trincomalee also for an A/S hunt off Madras.

The destroyers joined company around 1100FG/24. They abandoned the A/S hunt around 2300FG/24 to make rendezvous with and join the escort of convoy CJ 9A. HMAS Quiberon joined the convoy around 0730FG/25. HMS Quality arrived at Madras later the 25th escorting HMS LST 180 (?) and HMS LST 238 (?) which had been detached from the convoy.
