At 1830D/16, HMS Colombo (Capt. C.A.E. Stanfield, RN) sighted a small merchant vessel / coaster at anchor off Mogadishu.
At 1841D/16, fire was opened on this vessel.
At 1843D/16, an enemy shore battery opened fire on HMS Colombo.
At 1847D/16, HMS Colombo ceased fire and retired at 24 knots under the cover of a smoke screen. Two his are claimed on the merchant vessel.
The target was actually a bit bigger then was though by the British and was the merchant vessel Somalia (2699 GRT, built 1918). She was not hit. The Italians also claimed that their shore batteries had hit the British cruiser which was not the case. (18)

Stanfield, RN), still on patrol off Italian Somaliland, is attacked some 60 miles north-east of Kismayu, by an enemy aircraft which made two attack runs. The bombs dropped during these two attacks missed astern during both attacks. (17)

They departed for Berbera around 1300D/18 but they parted company around 1040D/20 when the transport continued onwards unescorted and HMS Colombo set course for Kismayu. (31)

The convoy was escorted by the light cruiser HMS Colombo (Capt. C.A.E. Stanfield, RN).
Around 0915D/17, the (troop) transport Burma (British, 7821 GRT, built 1914) joined the convoy off Mogadishu.
The convoy arrived at Aden on 21 August 1941.

Around 1000A/24, the aircraft carrier HMS Implacable (Capt. L.D. Mackintosh, DSO, DSC, RN, flying the flag of Vice-Admiral H.R. Moore, KCB, CVO, DSO, RN, C-in-C Home Fleet), light cruiser HMS Mauritius (Capt. C.A.E. Stanfield, RN) and the destroyers HMS Myngs (Capt. M.L. Power, CBE, RN), HMS Venus (Cdr. H.G.D. De Chair, DSC with Bar, RN), HMS Verulam ( Lt.Cdr. M Thornton, DSO, DSC, RN), HMS Volage (Cdr. L.G. Durlacher, OBE, RN), HMCS Algonquin (Lt.Cdr. D.W. Piers, DSC, RCN) and HMCS Sioux (A/Lt.Cdr. E.E.G. Boak, RCN) departed Scapa Flow for this operation.
Between 0810A/26 and 0840A/26, HMS Implacable launched air strikes to attack German shipping between Rorvik and Bodo. They returned around 1010A/26.
Around 1430A/26, more air strikes were flown off. They returned around 1620A/26.
Around 0950A/27, more air strikes were flown off. They returned around 1120A/27.
Around 0800A/28, more air strikes were flown off. They returned around 0920A/28.
Around 1315A/28, more air strikes were flown off. They returned around 1435A/28.
The force returned to Scapa Flow around 0900A/30. Shortly afterwards the Commander-in-Chief Home Fleet, Vice-Admiral H.R. Moore, KCB, CVO, DSO, RN, struck his flag in HMS Implacable and hoisted it in HMS Rodney (Capt. R.O. Fitzroy, RN).
During these attacks the following damage was inflicted on the enemy; On the 26th, the seaplane tender Karl Meyer was attacked near Rorvik in position 63°03'N, 11°34'E. She was subsequently driven on the rocks and destroyed by fire. The small Norwegian vessel Baerum (208 GRT) was sunk in this area.
On the 27th, the German minesweeper M 433 which was escorting the U-boat U-1060 were attacked twice. The end result was that the M 433 was sunk and that the U-boat was driven ashore after having been heavily damaged. Position of the sinking was to the south-west of Bronnoysund.
Also the landing barges F 235 and F 236 were damaged in the Sandnessjoen area.
On the 28th, the Norwegian merchant vessel Karmoy (2498 GRT, built 1921) was sunk near Lodingen. (35)
