Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) is placed in commission for trials at her builders yard at Barrow-in-Furness. (1)

7 Sep 1941
Around 1400A/7, Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) departed Barrow-in-Furness for Liverpool. She dropped anchor in Liverpool Bay at 2010A/7. En-route gunnery trials were carried out. She was escorted by the destroyers HMS Walker (Cdr. D.G.F.W. MacIntyre, DSO, RN), HMS Volunteer (Lt.Cdr. N. Lanyon, RN) and the escort destroyer HMS Blankney (Lt.Cdr. P.F. Powlett, DSC, RN). The escorting destroyers remained with her during then night to provide A/S and AA protection.

The next moring Indomitable proceeded to a position off the Bar lightvessel where she then anchored. HMS Walker and HMS Volunteer then parted company. HMS Blankney remained with the carrier for AA protection. (1)

9 Sep 1941
In the early afternoon Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) entered the Gladstone graving dock at Liverpool. She then commenced a tilt test which was completed the following morning. The dock was then pumped out. (1)

1 Oct 1941
Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) is undocked. She then immediately left Liverpool around 0915A/1, for Belfast where she arrived around 2130A/1. En-route full power trials had been carried out. She was escorted by HrMs Jacob van Heemskerck (Cdr. E.J. van Holte, RNN) which provided AA protection. (2)

2 Oct 1941
Around 2000A/2, Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) departed Belfast for trials in the Clyde area and then onwards to Greenock. She is escorted by HrMs Jacob van Heemskerck (Cdr. E.J. van Holte, RNN) which provided AA protection.

HMS Indomitable arrived at Greenock around 1730A/3 after having conducted D/G trials off Helensburg as well. On completion of the trials HrMs Jacob van Heemskerck returned to Belfast Lough. (2)

Around 1000Q/1, HMS Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) departed Bermuda for Kingston, Jamaica where she is to conduct work-up and flying exercises. (3)

3 Nov 1941
Near Jamaica, HMS Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) is joined by the corvettes HMS Clarkia (Lt.Cdr. F.J.G. Jones, RNR) and HMS Tulip (Lt.Cdr. A. Wilkinson, RNR).

On entering Kingston harbour in the afternoon, first HMS Clarkia and then HMS Indomitable grounded.

It took several hours before HMS Indomitable was refloated. It was necessary for the carrier to be docked for which she was to be sent to the U.S. east coast. (3)

Around 1530R/6, HMS Indomitable (Capt. H.E. Morse, DSO, RN) departed Kingston, Jamaica for Norfolk, Virginia where she is to be docked for repairs.

On departure from Kingston she is escored by HMS Clarkia (Lt.Cdr. F.J.G. Jones, RNR). She later parted company to proceed to Bermuda. (3)

They departed again around 0840R/25 for a few days of flying exercises.

They returned to Kingston around 1730R/28. (3)
