Career information
He was born on 21 May 1914 and joined the RNVR from the Metropolitan police in 1939. He died on 1 April 1970. He was a coxswain of a landing craft, based in Warsash. Went to King Alfred and Greewich for Officer training and was posted to Coastal Command's HMS Seahawk in Ardrishaig. He commanded a couple of MLs there before being sent to Cairo for the building and commissioning of his last ML. He took this through the Suez Canal to India where he waited for orders, presumably to proceed to the Japanese war area. He was bitten by a scorpion and contracted a tropical disease, which required his repatriation to the UK "unfit for tropical service".
He took this ML through the Suez Canal to India where they waited for further orders. He spent time in Simla and was entertained at the Viceregal Lodge. The cutting from "The Times of India" refers to one such visit. He contracted a tropical disease there and was invalided home. The war was over before he recovered. (information from his son).
